"trash to treasure" table

Can you believe that I found this table on the side of the road with a free sign on it?

Granted it was a little rough and a lot wobbly, but I knew with a little bit of love and elbow grease I could bring it back to life.  I whipped the mama-van to the side of the road and scooped it up as fast as possible.  The hottie hubby thought I was crazy.  I admit, it sat in the basement for about a year with no change.

I was perusing Pinterest (my favorite past-time) and I came upon this gorgeous picture.

(I couldn't find the original link but please let me know if you know it.)

I immediately thought of my little, free table.  I decided to use paint sticks to create the herringbone pattern on top.

It took me hours to cut and glue all those little pieces down.

A little wood filler and a whole ton of sanding and this is what I was left with.

I left the color choice for the legs up to Miss H.  I was leaning towards a nice creamy white, or a soft grey.  And....she picked aqua blue!  What??!! Totally out of my comfort zone!   I think it looks amazing (now).

We stained the top walnut and then topped that with a couple coats of poly.

Not to shabby for a free table, some paint sticks and a whole lotta love and attention!  I think this might be my favorite project yet...
